Jeff’s Stats: up later, I walked early, because I have Card Club.
My Stats: 29.38 minutes, 1.5 miles, 196 calories. An average of 3.09 miles an hour.
For 4 lots of 30-40 seconds, and one lot of 55 seconds I ramped the speed up to 5 miles an hour, and ran. I really wanted to try one spurt of a minute, but I just felt like I was going to fall over, so I didn’t push it. My thighs were a little twingy today, but not too bad.
Interesting thing to note, even though I ran more, it took me longer than yesterday. I think it’s because running completely shags me, so I can’t walk as fast in the intervals in between. I have a dual aim now, keep those short running intervals in, and still try and keep my time around the 30 minute mark.
Renee was right when she said the treadmill can be a consistently harder exercise than walking outside. That wee belt keeps you right on track, makes slowing down not quite as easy. I don’t want to give up outside walking altogether: I like seeing the neighbourhood changing through the seasons, and I like the fresh air. Most likely we’ll try to walk outside at least once on the weekends.
I had the Nano on again. I forgot to put it on shuffle mode, so I started at A – Abba. Abba is very much fun to walk and run to, and I put all of my favourites on.

Wednesday.
Jeff’s Stats: 25.48 minutes, 1.5 miles, 175 calories. An average of 3.53 miles an hour.
My Stats: 29.07 minutes, 1.5 miles, 186 calories. An average of 3.09 miles an hour.
For 6 lots of 25 seconds, I ramped the speed up to 5 miles an hour, and ran. Holding on to the bars, cause I’m not that coordinated, and not that keen on breaking my nose. I did one stint of 25 seconds running last night, and my muscles hurt today. Interesting to see what this little stint does. I walked quicker tonight, I had my Nano on. I tried to read at first, but there’s no reading and walking any faster than about 2.5 miles an hour, and I only did that for a couple of minutes warmup and cooldown. I had my drink next to me tonight, and really needed it, especially after the wee running segments.

talked to my sister in Australia for 37 minutes, while on the treadmill. Even though I not-so-secretly think the blue-tooth aka Borg headsets are a little wanky, I can see their purpose while trying to hold onto the walkie phone, and the treadmill at the same time as not falling.
Jeff’s Stats: 30.01 minutes, 1.751 miles, 205 calories. An average of 3.5 miles an hour.
My Stats: 42 minutes, 1.5 miles, 200 calories. An average of 2.15 miles an hour.
I make up in time, what he does in speed, so calorically, I’m good. I could do with a little more speed, but I’m not falling flat on my arse at International Long Distance Rates!

For my birthday, I got a treadmill. At the Christmas sales, we found a DVD player for $25, a 14 inch TV for $69, and a rack to hold them all on the wall for $79. Jeff installed them on the wall in the basement that’s right next to the treadmill. We have a billion DVDs; we get 3 netflix at a time, and have two Tivos and two DVD recorders, so we have a billion DVDs.
I wanted to start the year the way I mean to go on, so I jumped on the treadmill, put the “Thank you for Smoking” DVD in, and walked. I watched the extras with commentary, and the Charlie Rose show, and about 5 minutes of Scrubs in the time it took me to walk 1.5 miles. A bit wheezy and sniffy, some of which I can blame on the holdover cold, and some on not doing any exercise since my last deep water walking session on the 21st of December.
37.16 minutes, 1.5 miles, 192 calories.

So last year, I walked 147 days, or 147 miles.
My big deal in 2006 was never miss a day, not one single day. 147 consecutive days.
This year, I’m working the numbers game. Our usual walk outside was about a mile and a half. So I know I can do a mile and a half between 20 (very fast walking) and 40 (more an amble really) minutes.
Walking 20-40 minues a day should be doable. But it’s not going to stop the thing if I don’t walk every day, in a row, all days all week, and on and on.
What I’m aiming for, is to walk 500 miles in 2007. That’s 1.3 miles a day, so it’s under my walking average. On the weekends, Jeff and I would regularly walk for 2.5 to 3 miles. I’m going to keep a daily tally, and a weekly and a monthly tally, to see how the numbers add up.
500 miles, 365 days, that’s 1.37 miles a day, 9.62 miles a week, 41.66 miles a calendar month.
There’s my goal, let’s see how I do!
