Jeff’s Stats: up later, I walked early, because I have Card Club.
My Stats: 29.38 minutes, 1.5 miles, 196 calories. An average of 3.09 miles an hour.
For 4 lots of 30-40 seconds, and one lot of 55 seconds I ramped the speed up to 5 miles an hour, and ran. I really wanted to try one spurt of a minute, but I just felt like I was going to fall over, so I didn’t push it. My thighs were a little twingy today, but not too bad.
Interesting thing to note, even though I ran more, it took me longer than yesterday. I think it’s because running completely shags me, so I can’t walk as fast in the intervals in between. I have a dual aim now, keep those short running intervals in, and still try and keep my time around the 30 minute mark.
Renee was right when she said the treadmill can be a consistently harder exercise than walking outside. That wee belt keeps you right on track, makes slowing down not quite as easy. I don’t want to give up outside walking altogether: I like seeing the neighbourhood changing through the seasons, and I like the fresh air. Most likely we’ll try to walk outside at least once on the weekends.
I had the Nano on again. I forgot to put it on shuffle mode, so I started at A – Abba. Abba is very much fun to walk and run to, and I put all of my favourites on.

Wednesday.
Jeff’s Stats: 25.48 minutes, 1.5 miles, 175 calories. An average of 3.53 miles an hour.
My Stats: 29.07 minutes, 1.5 miles, 186 calories. An average of 3.09 miles an hour.
For 6 lots of 25 seconds, I ramped the speed up to 5 miles an hour, and ran. Holding on to the bars, cause I’m not that coordinated, and not that keen on breaking my nose. I did one stint of 25 seconds running last night, and my muscles hurt today. Interesting to see what this little stint does. I walked quicker tonight, I had my Nano on. I tried to read at first, but there’s no reading and walking any faster than about 2.5 miles an hour, and I only did that for a couple of minutes warmup and cooldown. I had my drink next to me tonight, and really needed it, especially after the wee running segments.

I started the walking thing in 2006 on Wednesday 26 July, and finished it on Tuesday 19 December. Winding up the work year, Jeff being sick, and then me being sick meant the walking just stopped there for 2006.
On average, I walked about a mile a day, as many days later in the year I walked more than a mile, and some days earlier on, and on late late nights, I walked less.
6 days in July, 31 days in August, 30 days in September, 31 days in October, 30 days in November, and 19 days in November. That’s 147 days, 21 weeks, 5.25 months.
That’s also 147 miles. That’s me walking from my house, to Philadelphia, and back, and then back to Philadelphia again. That’s 5.6 marathons.
At approximately 128 calories per mile, that’s 18,816 calories. Which I quite probably ate, but it means they were burned off, not busily melding themselves to my gut. 3500 calories = 1 pound, so that’s 5.37 additional pounds not making my pants not do up.
That’s my big new exercise achievement for 2006. And now for 2007.

Another late night walk. Spent the day working on a $100K grant for the Theatre, and some day-job work I didn’t get done on Thursday, because I was working on some of the grant stuff then.
We finished up around 9:45, called the Texas Roadhouse, found out they were open until 11, and floored it home. Tossed the cats inside, fed them, went out and ate large chunks of meat and ribs, wandered over to Pathmark to pick up a Toys R Us gift card and a birthday card for our nephew who’s 9. The card made me laugh out loud, a velvet covered black and white spotted cow, with holes for the other spots. Inside it said “Holy Cow! It’s your Birthday!”. Cheesy, tacky, tactile and fun, the perfect card.
By the time we got home, and got out of the car to go walking, it was on the dot of 11PM. We got back around 11:30. Slightly faster walk tonight, because I didn’t go in to get a jumper, and froze! It got down to 41 degrees, completely freezing. Cold weather=great for walking.
The pedometer says 3549 steps, or 1.12 miles.

Not sure if this is the latest we’ve gone out walking, but it’s definitely in the top three.
Left the house at 11:10PM, got back around 11:45PM. Didn’t have a chance to walk before work, swam and gymmed from just after work until getting home just before 9PM. THen the shit (continued to) hit the fan with the Theatre which sucked up all but 30 minutes of a quick trip to Pathmark to pick up a bunch of canned stuff on sale.
Pissing down before we left, but stopped just after we started walking, which was nice. Pedometer says 3929 steps, or 1.24 miles. 11 steps off 1 and a quarter miles. Got a little thing going for the even quarter of a mile.
I’m stubborn with my walking. It’s the one exercise that I’ve managed to not have taken away from me recently. My gym and swim seem to regularly fall off when work gets busy. But I’m doing the walk, every day. It’s past 9 weeks now, 63 days. I’m persistent and stubborn and bloody minded. And pragmatic – I’m getting my own treadmill before the snow and ice starts up!

It’s still called a SongWalk, even if I don’t get to listen to my iPod. Didn’t get to walk before work, even though I got up early. Our business stuff, client stuff, and friend tech support stuff meant I really just had enough time to get to work on time.
Tonight we didn’t do the complete walk, as a group of guys came walking towards us; a fair way off, but still we decided discretion, valour and not walking directly into trouble at 10:45 at night meant a sharp right about 3 blocks before we’d planned was an OK idea.
We walked for between 25 and 30 minutes, having left the house at 10:35PM, and being back just around 11PM. Pedometer says 3138 steps, or .99 miles. (Bollocks! Just 14 steps off a mile! I could have walked around the driveway for those few steps. Yes, I did sit here making the pedometer click and tick over to a mile, just to see how close I got!)
We were due to go for a walk around 9PM, after my MWC Fall conference dinner meeting in Wildwood. But. I’d been running slightly late to get to the carpool by 4:30 this arvo, and forgot to put my headlights down, and whoosh, 4 hours later, no power to my car. Jeff jump started the car easily, but we thought a good 45 minute drive around to be sure my battery was retaining its charge might be the best way to go.
We’re still going to test it before he heads out to work before me in the AM!

Again, no chance to walk before work. Tech support for Jasperdyne clients, and Theatre phone calls.
Walked after the gym, with Jeff, 9:30PM – 10PM. Same walk as per usual. Pedometer says 3384 steps, or 1.07 miles

Didn’t get a chance before work. 6:45PM – 7:20PM. Pedometer says 3863 steps or 1.22 miles
Did our usual walk looping around at 5th and Broad, with a brief intermission to take photos of the Halloween decorations a couple of neighbours have up on 10th street.
It was nice to walk that route in the daylight, I got to see the sunflowers I don’t usually see at night, and didn’t trip over the crooked footpath (tree roots under the concrete). A varied walk is a good walk.

Web work most of the day, plus threats of mid-afternoon/early evening thunderstorms meant we went for a later walk.
9:01 – 9:32PM. Pedometer says 3436 steps 1.09 miles.
Our standard walk, loop up and around to the new neighbourhood market on 5th and Broad and then back.
