I’m getting into the idea of walking to do short errands. Get in some exercise, with a goal and a purpose other than just the walking.

Left the house at 11:26, walked to our bank to deposit a couple of checks. Got there at 11:49. Spent 5 minutes in the bank, and then walked down from there to my day job, another 25 minutes (including several stops at the film festival location and the local photographer’s store).

The pedometer didn’t seem to want to work, it said it was just over a mile. I know how long a mile takes me to walk, and I had some speed here. I’m going with at least 1.5 to 2 miles.

Getting the time to walk to work, that’s not always an option in the morning. Especially when I arrive, and I’m red-faced and sweating, that’s not the way I really want to start the day.

I’ve thought about walking to the gym, which is about 25 minutes, and then catching a 30 minute swim, followed by a shower, and then to work. Then I think about how it’s not so easy to get up early already, and how I’ll need to carry with me whatever I need, and it doesn’t seem to fit me. I’ll try it on a Saturday first, see how that goes.

I’d like to know how long everywhere that I’d go in this town on foot would take me. That’s a long-term project.
